“Learn from My Mistakes”
“Learn from My Mistakes”
1/27/2000
I’m sifting through the ashes
Of memories that I’ve lost.
I’m picking up the pieces
Of my life from off the floor.
I’m trying to remember
The feelings of your touch.
I try to open twice
That locked and bolted door.
Wait a minute.
I’m trying something new now
From off the books of ruin.
I’m growing love and life
In the ashes of mistakes.
I’m learning to apply
The art of vase creation,
And I’m loving someone else
Cause I learn from things I break.

Kevin,
Beautiful! Of picking up the pieces, of gathering the shattered pieces of the heart and putting them back together to love again. The rising from the ground where we we fell and become a better version of our “self” after. No regrets, just lessons learned. I like the positive message. It is encouraging and inspiring. No heartbreak should ever stop us from loving again.
I wish you well.

Beautiful poem!
Ain’t it funny how that happens, sometimes - no matter how hard you fight it?
Yep, I’m there too…Thank you!

I really admire this poem. I love the shift of emotion.

Jeques- the lesson of renewal, of reinventing, is something more people need. A wise man learns from his mistakes and heartbreaks, a foolish man basks in them.
Moriahjoy- Thank you. The words “painfully beautiful” mean a lot to a poet.
Bird in Love- I’m glad you’ve moved beyond the first stanza! By the way, I’m having trouble finding your blog . . . could you help me out?
Dream Matrix- Take two imperfect people and put them together and what do you have? Imperfection. It happens, but thankfully it doens’t happen all the time. Great name by the way!
Withserendipity- Thank you for your sweet words.

You are welcome; sometimes the only response to something that grips the heart so strongly is simplicity, so while “painfully beautiful” may be terse, it is intentionally so, for the power of the poem speaks for itself through its expression. But how can one not respond and say “thank you” for sharing, for giving voice to something that we, too, recognize within ourselves when we look in the mirror? So, thank you.

Kevin,
Like the seed, it is when we are almost destroyed that we are just about to grow.
I wish you well.

Hi Kevin! I’m Bird in Love. And, by the way, thanks for your comment.
I still got a lot of things to learn.
See you around!
