“Say You Hate Me”
7/21/2000

Throw a dirty look,
Pierce me with those browns,
Fold your arms across your chest
And flash a painful frown.
Say goodbye to all my friends
And pretend that I don’t live.
All because I wouldn’t leave her
And give to you my love.

Say you hate me.
Beat me.
If that’s what it takes
To hurt me.

I’ll never leave the girl I love
For someone to be used by.
Even if your love was pure
I wouldn’t leave. I cannot lie.
If I should be sorry
‘Cause I do not love your face-
I can’t be charged as guilty
Since my love is placed
On a girl who shares my life
And, unlike you, may one day
Actually be my wife.

    kevin,

I paint a picture in my mind as I read this. I clearly see the characters, I feel the intensity, the conflict, the drama unfolding. And just like in a movie, the images unreeled as I click down my mouse absorbing the moving emotions behind this lyric poem. It is sad, but there is that certain emancipation. Sometimes, we need to take the bitter pill to pay the price of freedom. We need to let go, so we could welcome new beginnings.

And when we look back, we could confidently say that we did the right thing.

    I wish you well.
