“Deed”
Sonnet 201
6/29/03

I may paint my every deed
Across the e’ven sky;
Take the pens of every tree
And scrawl all the good that I
Have done in the past, the now,
And all I hope to do.
I may the same with wrinkled brow
Cry and show to you
The evil I have done;
The evil that has been, is here,
And all I hope to shun.
But that, my dear,
Will only help you to know my deeds.
In the end, you won’t know me.

Sonnet 198

“Sonnet 198″
CH

I slipped on ice too precious
To abuse. I slid beneath the light
And spun in tangled meshes.
I smiled, spun, in spite
Of weariness of soul. My joy,
Delight, was dancing with the moon.
Grasp the reigns of Pleiades and employ
The summer noon.
Care like midnight blackness fell
And stars freckled northern skies.
Ring the wedding bell
And talk across the ice.
Take my hand and witness
The moonlight dreamer, precious.

Lay Her Father’s Life Down

May 27, 2008 at 1:06 pm (12. Moon Child) (, , , , , )

“Lay Her Father’s Life Down”
4/15/03
CH

She left this morning to lay
Her father’s life down.
She cried this morning
As she left our town.
The dawn’s silent comforts
Woke to find her left
I slept the night away–
She left me in my bed.

No one knew she’d gone today;
None were there to hold her.
She packed her dark brown bag
And waited by the shoulder.
She’ll sing beside his bed
And cry beside her friend.
She’ll leave without mere comfort
That comes back in the end.

But I’ll be waiting on that day
To take her in my heart.
I missed her when she slipped,
But I will play my waiting part.
She left this morning to lay
Her father’s life down.
I’ll see her when she flies
And be there when she breaks down.

Campfire

“Campfire”

DH

Come home.
Put on your shoes and comb your hair.
I found you crying all alone,
I searched for mother but she was not there.
You cared for sunshine,
You cared for Autumn’s ruby burn,
You cared for inside,
You cared for my character . . .

But no one cared.
You gave up everything to love
The one who never knew you were there.
But now you comb your long blond hair.
You left the pain to those who live in deep despair . . .
Now come here.

Your pain
Is hidden down in picture books.
Yet now you sing a new refrain.
You shame the devil with your skyward looks.
You cared for snowfall,
You cared for raindrop kiss’ed earth,
You cared when I called,
You cared even when you hurt . . .

And no one cared.
You loved the more even when your love
Was spurned and turned unfair.
But now your loneliness is spared.
You left the pain to those who live in deep despair . . .
You came here.
