Endless Realm

“Endless Realm”
9/30/00

Clouds like little ponds they lay
In a broadened mist of grey.
Painted in the lightest tones
By a hand in royal robes.
The sky, an endless realm to see;
A kingdom for a Deity.
A ceiling endless, floor of white;
Field of Angels burning bright.

Turn Away

“Turn Away”
9/30/00
JL

When we had to leave
It was always she
Who turned and walked away
As I stood and stayed

Waiving as she went,
Crying cause she meant
The world to me . . .
Cause now she has to leave.

I always felt it was
Best for her because
She always got to see
Friends and family.

While in the same locale
I’m feeling so left out;
Never with a different view
Sitting in my basement room.

But now the coin is newly tossed.
I figured, always thought,
It was most hard to stay,
But I’m finding out it’s worse this way,
Because I turned to turn away.

I’ll be Back

May 28, 2008 at 2:45 pm (05. Lonely Fall) (, , , , , , , )

“I’ll be Back”
9/30/00

Like all the knights gone out to war
On brilliant chargers years before.
Like families leaving all their friends
Yet next year will be back again.
As leaves turn down and fall away
But promise blossoms bright and green.
Like all the things that leave the ground
Someday, somewhere will come back down.
I promise in my absence black;
I promise one day I’ll be back.

Care to Care

May 28, 2008 at 2:38 pm (05. Lonely Fall) (, , , , , , , )

“Care to Care”
9/28/00

“Why should I care to care for you
When you have never cared for me?”
Unfortunately, the hole that cages souls
Is opened by only a few small keys.
No one will follow, no one will see,
No one will bother, and no one will be
A follower or listener to your “truth” or your words
If your life is not recognized
By a trait that’s named “love.”

Some are unlovely, most are unkind,
But if you want difference bred
You won’t hurt and won’t mind.
Instead you will heap coals of warmth on their heads.
Love can cause one to follow your lead,
And in the end, even die for a friend.
This is the key to unlock their locked hearts;
This is how to make it different, your best,
And love is how to pay your part.

This Place at Last

May 28, 2008 at 2:29 pm (05. Lonely Fall, Kevin's Sonnets) (, , , , , , )

“This Place At Last”
Sonnet 154
9/26/00

My foot once again presses the soil
I trod in days when smiles hung
Like banners at a village fair; when toil
Fell with the setting sun.
This place, enchanted by the sights and smells
Ingrained upon my pallet. In my mind I find
I could recreate with brush and quill
The finest details I reach and touch this time.
Feelings overflow my eyes, and burdens off my back
Cascade into, and lose themselves
Along the stacks of books on crowded racks,
The friends, the flowers, chance and love.
This place: a haven where I’ve learned, loved, and laughed.
I finally see it outside my dreams . . . at last.
